I think the point is that it’s absolutely NOT a future one would wish for, which is why Aviendha is going to do something about it.

Also, the vision proves nothing about the Last Battle’s outcome. The future Aviendha sees is the one that happens if the Wheel keeps turning. If the Dark One gets out, he will break the Wheel of Time, so it won’t matter what has been foretold. He is OUTSIDE the Pattern. Something along these lines was discussed by Cadsuane, Nyneave et al w/r Min’s viewings.

Although having said that, is it THAT much of a shock to imagine the Light is gonna be victorious…? I liked these chapters because they kinda hung a lantern on the fact that all the readers know the Last Battle is going to be won. Given that we know this, there is a danger we might get bored. These chapters gave us something to care about, a disaster for a people we have grown to love that genuinely may not be averted.
